This is your brain on Japanese
So I was out walking up to the shopping center near my parents' house for lunch today, reading whatever happened to have printed text on it as I am wont to do, and I noticed something kind of startling. Whenever I see vertical text now,
L T
I H
K I
E S
my instinct is to read it right to left (<--) rather than left to right (-->) like a normal English speaker. Apparently, my brain now interprets all vertical text as being in Asian-language mode, and reverses my scanning direction.
Weird.
Brains are fun.
